When Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrives in New York City to address the UN General Assembly, he might see a curious sight: the spire of the Empire State Building, bathed in green - the favored color of opposition rivals in his country.
By sheer coincidence, the tallest skyscraper in New York will be lighted green not to piss Ahmadinejad off - you’ll remember he’s accused of stealing Iran’s election, and green-clad protestors have not gone away. Nope, the building’s owners are instead commemorating the 70th anniversary of The Wizard Of Oz.
As one Iranian blogger put it, “The universe is smiling and the stars are aligned!” Indeed.
(EDIT: The tiered spire of the Empire State Building is scheduled to be lighted green on Thursday, Sept. 24 - a day after Ahmadinejad’s address to the U.N. It is not clear exactly how long he will be in New York, although he was scheduled to deliver an address - now cancelled - at Gotham Hall on Sept. 25.
Meanwhile, a massive rally, bringing together Iranians and several Jewish groups, is scheduled for Wednesday outside the U.N. - while Ahmadinejad is speaking inside - to “criticize Iran’s nuclear program, threats against Israel and alleged human-rights violations.”
Douchebag’s gonna have a lot of fun during his stay here, eh? Welcome to New York, jerkoff.)
